Our Initiative
As so many communities have found creative ways to communicate the urgency of putting an end to the horrific practice of abortion, for the past three years during October, blue and pink marking flags are placed on the Hill at Light of the World Roman Catholic Church in Littlteon, Colorado. This is a memorial to change with which you and all of the senators and representatives on Capitol Hill are entrusted.
We want you to know that we are indeed concerned with needed healthcare reform. We care about the health and welfare of every woman, man and child for there are many who have been deeply scarred mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually by the death of so many children. This issue alone is fundamental to justice, which has been discarded and is thus crippling our nation.
The coverage of abortion utilizing constituent’s tax dollars is not only immoral, it is unethical for legislative bodies to support sustaining this healthcare bill provision in whatever version it resides: the Baucus Bill, HR 3200, the Cass Amendment, or any other version (the “Bill”).
This issue alone is crippling our nation. We expect our legislators to listen to the voice of the majority of the people and protect all of life from womb to tomb.
The question is: Do you listen and hear? Do you see the light from our Hill? Will you abide by the majority of Americans who oppose such a blatant funded mandate of abortion – as opposed to sustaining the Hyde Amendment’s annual limitation on the Health and Human Services appropriation bill?
Surely you can understand the premise of justice within this context. We therefore expect you to demonstrate leadership in asserting what you know to be right from a legal and ethical perspective, notwithstanding the political implications.
As a consequence of the Bills under consideration, the use of constituent’s tax dollars to further expand abortion availability at no charge, becomes a funded mandate. We oppose this expropriated use of constitutent’s tax dollars!
Your primary responsibility is to represent the wishes of your constituency, who oppose this use of tax dollars to fund abortions.
Will you therefore actively legislate the removal of this abortion mandate which can also be based on the following?
Separation of Church and State
While the imposition of church precepts upon the populous would prompt vehement objection, this becomes a two edged sword — the state has no right to impose upon the constituency, the misappropriation of tax dollars in contravention of the people’s moral, and religious beliefs, or the precepts of their particular religious institution.
Does the End Justify the Means?
It is particularly reprehensible that an immoral act be imposed upon our health care professionals, attempting to financially coerce them into medical practices that would be the antithesis of their moral orientation against abortion.
From a sociological perspective how long can we sustain a caring society or maintain respect for each other if we acquiesce to “the end justifies the means”?
So that you may convey the sobering reality to others, we have included one pink and one blue flag thus enabling all to contemplate the gravity of their legislative consideration.
Will you demonstrate your support by displaying these flags on your desks in the House or Senate Chambers?
We have heard it said that it is time for change – let’s make the change to protect life instead of destroying it – we insist that the coverage of abortion using constituency tax dollars be removed from all bills and amendments being considered.
